Durian High Tea Buffet at Marriott Cafe

What are most Singaporeans excited about this season? DURIANS!! Many travel out from Singapore to Malaysia just to eat good durians. Here’s one place you shouldn’t miss – Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel!

Other than their usual international buffet, be sure to expect the bittersweet taste, fleshy meat and creamy texture desserts!

Let me first comment on their food. If you thought since the desserts was the main course, NEH, you’re wrong! The food was as good as their desserts! I love the local delights most. The Fried Carrot Cake and Char Kway Tiao was GOOD! Even their seafood was fresh and sweet.

Below are some food you can expect at the buffet before I go in and talk about the desserts. To name a few: Baked Char Siew Sou, Pork Square Ribs, Seafood Crepes, Egg Tarts, Dim Sum, SzeChuan Chicken Feet, Freshly Baked Pizza and more!

If you love seafood, they brought the ocean over. Be pleasantly wowed by a plethora of Singapore’s classics and an International fare. Other than just Freshly Shucked Oysters and Prawns, there were fresh salmon prepared too!

It is rare for James to eat more desserts than the mains for his meal. But he treated himself to  quite a few durian puffs!

You will be able to find Fried Durian Balls, Durian Swiss Roll, Mini Durian Mousse in Cups, Durian Puff, Cakes and more. Every bite was so flavorful and you can find chunks and chunks of D24 druian flesh inside. Although they may look small in size, but do not doubt their flavor. It is big as hell! In fact, I would think that one buffet is never enough as they are satisfyingly decadent.

A taste of Singapura at Park Hotel

Sponsored

From 1 July to 30 Sept 2015, pay only $58++ per pax to enjoy a nostalgic dinner BUFFET!!! And for non-Singaporeans, you can check out this buffet to have a taste of Singapore because all the dishes there triggers memories.

The first thing we saw was… We were welcomed by a refreshing drink and you can even find bits and pieces of fruits inside.

Of course, I was already very hungry by then. I saw a lot of familiar dishes like Fish Head Curry, Wok-friend La La, Butter Prawns with curry leaves and more when I walked around and my first thought of it was – Wow, my parents would love this buffet for sure and my mom’s birthday is in July. Maybe another idea for her birthday celebration.

They have their favourite Chilli Crabs and Salted Egg Crayfish.

I NEED TO CAPLOCK THIS, THE SALTED EGG CRAYFISH WAS SUPER SUPER SUPER GOOD. I like anything with Salted Egg and I am quite biased but the crayfish was very very fresh as well! The sweetness of the fish plus the creamy salted egg sauce….. yums..

James was singing praises about the curry for this Fish Head Curry because the fish was very fresh and look at the amount of ingredients used. Was generous an understatement?

Baked Sambal Chili Red Snapper was good because most Singaporeans love sambal and it is a need whenever we eat seafood. Don’t we all love Stingray sambal? How about Red Snapper? I think it is healthier and has more flesh inside! YUMS.

Squid in Fragrant Curry Sauce. My mom’s second favourite to crabs. She love BBQ Squid, Fried Squid and anything with squid. I believe she would love this dish for sure!

The fried rice was flavorful and tasty!! But heh, I would save my tummy for the seafood anytime!!!

The prawns were big and fresh. Even though it was cleared out fast, the staffs happily replace the empty woks with a fresh wok of delicacy. Love their prompt service.

There is a DIY corner for you to cook your own curry prawn noodles. I love DIY corners because I can spam my own ingredients! Heh. For me, I love DIY corners more than others because I can be quite fussy with food. For example, this curry prawn noodles is perfect for me because I don’t like bean sprouts and I like more fish cake slices in my noodles. I don’t have to be shy and just add whatever I want. Buffet the right way! Haha.

Deep-fried food are also available and there was actually more than these. Therefore, expect a good variety of food.

If you prefer something light or Japanese, they have salad bar and cold seafood as well.

The salmon we had that night was super fresh and I noticed that the staffs had to top up the dish every hour.

When it comes to good old days, how can we ever miss out the traditional kuehs. I love the colorful kueh and the green one with rice at the bottom. They are like my childhood snacks because my grandma used to buy me those when I stay over during the weekends.

As mentioned, the buffet is available from 1 July to 30 September 2015. Kids under the age of 5 dine for free.

Wednesday to Thursday: Adult $58++ Child $29++

Friday to Sunday: Adult $68++ Child $34++

York Hotel Buffet at only $20+

Sponsored

Author: James

If you were to ask me where is the MOST affordable buffet offering the MOST decent treasured local flavours without burning a hole in your pocket even if you were to spend on a large gathering, there can ONLY be ONE answer from me!

And that is the buffet at….

Once again, we were very priviledged to be invited for a buffet food review @ the White Rose Cafe residing in a corner of the hotel’s lobby. I have always been personally delighted to be invited to their event partially because of the very thoughtful and kind MarComs whom never fail to tend to us even at the expense of their own personal evening time with family. Kudos to you guys!

But one thing in common for all four of us, the evening spent at White Rose Cafe having their buffet is always time well spent!

This time around, I feel sorry for White Rose cafe because its the first food review meal we had after our Bali trip and I must say the meals in Bali set a pretty high benchmark & pose as a tough fight for our local cuisine. Despite the high benchmark set, I did not lose any appetitde over the quality and spread of local food offered from the restaurant!

So what did we have that night?

We had some of the 20 mouth-watering selections offered in the menu namely Chicken Masala (A gentle taste of India suitable for even those who doesn’t fancy spicy dishes) ..

..Black Ink Sotong (the Dark delight for the night which doesn’t stain your teeth)..

..Deep Fried Curry Drumlet (One of my favourites because of the creative infusing of curry taste within the drumlets)..

..Onion Omelette (As big as my face)..

..even Chap Chye found its way to our table!

Apart from those abovementioned, there is a total of 20 delicious selections namely Curry Sotong, Curry Chicken, Beef Rendang, Black Soya Sauce Chicken, Sambal Eggs, Silver Fish Omelette, Sambal Kang Kong, Curry Cabbage with Beancurd, Fried Bean Sprouts with Salted Fish, Papadum, Achar, Chendol, Ice Kachang, Cheng Tng, Chin Chow with Palm Seeds and others!

How much you may ask for ALL these per pax?

Let me thrill you with the price of it all at a mere $22.00* per person. With that price, you get to enjoy unlimited orders of the abovementioned list of local dishes!

*All prices are subject to 10% service charge & prevailing Goods & Services Tax (GST)

<Additional Perks>

The deal get EVEN sweeter if you go in a group of 2-3.

Plus one more serving of Signature Fish Head Curry (Half for 2-3 persons and Whole for 4-7 persons) and free flow of Steamed Fragrant Rice.

Also, you get to Add to your buffet the freshest & biggest Sambal King Prawns @ $3.00 per piece (U.P. $8) and that is not all….

TOP UP with a Crab Masala @ $10.00 per crab (U.P. $32). Where can you find crabs for just $10?

If you ask me about choices of Drink, I would say you wouldn’t want to miss out on this thirst-quenching & appetide-stirring Calamansi with Sour Plum! The sweet sourness of the drink pairs perfectly with the strong flavours of the dishes!

Availability: April to June 2015
Monday to Friday
12pm to 2.30pm
Price: $22.00 per person (Minimum 2 persons)For enquiries or reservations, please call
White Rose Café at +65 6830 1156

In conclusion, this was the second time I had dinner with them and I must say I have already developed a strong bond for the local cuisines offered by them so much so I can put down any important appointments at hand just to attend their food event!

Not just because of the fantastic & palate-satisfying Singaporean delights offered by them, but also very much because of the HOMELY feel it gives to me whenever I dine there! This feeling cannot be explained by mere words but only be testified through your own personal experience with them!

This scumptious meal at York Hotel put a TRUE full stop to my Bali Trip and called out to me that I am truly home now!

*For BOTH Lovers like ME!* Pls continue to read on… ><

As we walked into the our allocated dining area, this platter of seafood was the first thing that caught my eyes! It wasnt just about the nice presentation but also the immediate summary of the wide array of seafood choices which I forsee in the upcoming Seafood fiesta. The fresh catch included in this Cold Seafood on Ice Platter included baby lobster, brown clams, black mussels to pacific oyster and crayfish. They even had three different type of crabs to salivate over: Snow King, flower crab and Spanish spanner.

As an hugh prawn lover, I couldn’t help plunging into the Big Head prawns first and I am very delighted by its freshness and juiciness.

For Carb lovers, here is something to rave about: Asian Twist Mixed Seafood Pasta. The ribbons of pasta are tossed with a potpourri of seafood waiting to impress the taste buds! Despite the fact that I do not usually fancy a cold dish at the start of my meal, I must say it was flavourful enough to let me overlook the temperature part this time around.

Singapore’s Pride: the Signature Chilli Crab wrapped in Lotus Leaf with Man Tou. The crabs here aren’t any Crap Crab. They originates from the famous land of Big crabs, Sri Lanka! The reason for wrapping in Lotus leaf is to ensure that the flavours are all sealed inside. Don’t neglect the man tou and spicy gravvy, the marriage of these two will not disappoint those spicy sauce lovers.

Finally, for my personal Favourite of the night: The Crayfish served in thick, velvety and rich curry. As much as the curry looks intimidating in this picture, it was actually quite palate-friendly. So don’t worry getting your palates burn by the spice! The freshness and crunchiness of the Crayfish meat was another noteworthy part of this dish!

Shall not let the seafood take all the limelight! Now for the other titan of the night: The Thai Cuisine! There are a total of 10 traditional Thai dishes added to 1 Market’s buffet spread. Some of which are revealed below. *Spoilers ahead*

Thai Rojak is a DIY corner where you can expose your creativity to make your own rojak..

The must try at 1 Market: Satays! Comes in various flavours: Chicken, Beef and Mutton.

Chilli Mud Flower Crab

.. & they even offer Dim Sum! If you are thinking a Halal restaurant can’t whip up a good Salted Egg custard Pau, i can only say these buns gonna prove you so wrong! Or rather M will prove you dead wrong as she alone had like 5-6 of these easily!

Also, western fares like the steak where they prepared the steak from a spectrum of well done, medium to medium rare.

Also offered in the Thai food segment are the Sticky Mango Rice, Tom Yum Soup, Rice Noodles… Shall spare any more spoilers and leave it to you guys to explore the Thai wonders!

Desserts section with all the renowned Halal desserts and even Mango Sticky Rice for the Thai Buffet.

So don’t ever say you can’t find anything to eat this buffet. Look at the spread!!

1 Market is located at #04-45-49 Plaza Singapura, 68 Orchard Road, 238839.

Crazier about Crabs @ Brizo

Last year, I went crazy at Brizo because it was a party with the crabs!! We were not even together back then. This year, we are back at Brizo as a couple. Time flies. A bit more and we are at our first anniversary!

My entire family loves crab. My mom loves Chilli crabs, while my dad loves Butter crabs. Me? I prefer to have it with Salted Egg.

So what is the best place to have all 3 without burning a hole in the pocket? Buffet.

But where can you find Crab Buffet?

This pan is a brand new STAR dish – Crab in a Pan. Each pan contains a whole crab, prawns, clams, black mussels, potatoes, corn and sausages and you can choose a choice between Mariniere, Bouillabaisse and Cioppino.

Below is a picture showing a pan that serves 4.

By the way…. do you know that they have 26 kinds of seafood and 22 types of crab dishes?!?!

I thought I would love the salted egg crab the most but I love how the black pepper crabs were cooked that night!! It was so yummy!! James was also filling his stomach with crabs and I was secretly smiling inside because he look like a greedy boy when he was handling the crabs. All 10 of his fingers were dirty. So cute! Haha. It was partly because he was enjoying himself thoroughly throughout. The food was good and so was the ambience as we were seated with a table of friendly people and our good friend, William.

Brizo’s array of all-time favourite crab dishes sare the sweet-piquant Brizo Signature Chilli Crab, the aromatic Heavenly Fragrance Crab and the dim sum styled X.O. Steamed Crab in Egg White.

If you are a cargo lover, they have Premium Crabmeat Fried Rice with XO Sauce and Laksa too! I was too busy with the crabs that I forgot to take a picture of my laksa. It was a DIY station so you can cook the laksa yourself. I prefer it that way because I can skip the bean sprouts and add more eggs! Hehe. The broth of the laksa was quite good too! It was flavorful enough to want a second serving.

Crabmeat Kueh Pie Tee sounds cute too!

Of course, if you prefer to have some fried snacks, they have crispy soft shell crab and baked crab in shell as well.

And for the cold dishes, be sure to expect cold and fresh sashimi. salad, Alaskan Crab Claw, Australian Spanner Crab and Chilled Flower Crab!

Not forgetting sushi too!

The range of dessert they have is 5x of what you see here. From Conetto’s mini cone, to mini Magnum to durian mousse to kuehs to macaroons to many many many more!

Yup, with such a HUGE range of variety, the prices of the buffet still remains pocket friendly. It is always good to pamper yourself to such good food once in a while!

During this period from 1 April to 28 June 2015, diners can also stand a chance to win a weekend staycation at Park Hotel Clarke Quay by sharing the most delicious-looking plates! Do remember to #crabbuffetatpark so that they can see your entries!

Penang Hawkers’ Fare

Sponsored

For Singaporeans that yearn for a taste of Penang at exceptionally affordable price, look no where beyond what is offered at York Hotel Singapore!

Nestling behind the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, this hotel has taken the trouble to seek out and fly in the Best and famous hawkers in Penang to prepare a series of well acclaimed gastronomic delights of Penang’s authentic street food at their very own White Rose Cafe.

Upon reaching the cafe, our eyes were greeted with a sea of people particularly, families. Got us wondering why the food fare was so popular for gatherings. So guys! A hint to somewhere you can show filial piety to your parents, or to chill with your friends! ><

We took no time to maneuver our way to the various counters. There were easily 8-10 counters with authentic Penang people stationed within each individual counter selling their specialty food!

If you are wondering what’s the Penang food being offered here. You can be sure they have all the essentials here! Here are some of what is being offered. They have the crispy Penang Pancake..each of them were prepared on the spot piping hot! The crispy texture and generous serving of nuts will definitely send pancake lovers off for a second helping. It is very crispy and the skin is not too thick, unlike those commonly found in Singapore.

Well, if you think that is the only crispy food around, think again. They also brought in the famous Lor Bak served in the hawkers’ own special Lor sauce.

How can we miss out on the Famous Penang Laksa! For those who have not tried Penang Laksa before, it is very different from our Singapore kind of Laksa. Instead of being hot and spicy, it has a tinge of sourness in its spiciness. Defintely worth a try if you never try before!

And if you are wondering which food has the longest queue, this is the ONE! The MUST MUST TRY when you are there is this famous Penang Char Kway Teow! It is extremely flavorful and the portion of prawns and eggs are generous as well. Nothing could stop us not even the longest queue there! We had 3 plates EACH.

They also have the Nasi Lemak served with Nonya Chicken Kapitan..

..Penang Prawn mee.. which broth was very very flavorful. This picture certainly did not do much justice to the bowl of awesome prawn noodles.

..Kway Teow Soup or Dry..

..Fruit Rojak.. which was very refreshing!

…and the special dish of the night: Penang Char Koay Kak featuring hand-made rice cakes! It is like carrot cake but instead of carrot cake, they replaced it with rice cake which taste even nicer.

For those whom have tried the previous round of Penang Buffet, you might not have tried this as they just launched this new dish! Bonus for those whose first timer!

Apart from those listed above, they also have Cuttlefish Kang Kong,

and a variety of desserts such as the ever popular Ice Kacang and Chendol. Since it is buffet, that means you can enjoy unlimited servings of these popular Penang food till your hearts’ content while saving on the Bus ticket to Penang!

Momiji Collagen Hotpot Buffet

Holy Holy ladies! Whoever is crazy over collagen have got to visit Momiji as…….

Momiji Shabu Shabu is now introducing Singapore’s first and ONLY collagen hotpot buffet!! I don’t think I need to elaborate on the benefits of collagen. Tell me, who doesn’t know that collagen is good for the skin?!

The soup base is made of collagen pudding – the culmination of 6 hours of simmering kampong chicken.

The taste was a little bland at first but this is due to different preferences. You can top it up with Himalayan Pink Salt yourself if you like it saltier. Ladies would generally prefer it to be bland while the guys would prefer the taste to be stronger.

Complementing the collagen soup are over 100 items including delicatessens such as Kurobta pork, half-shell scallops, deep red sea prawns, Asari clams and more!! From cooked food to non-cooked food. Well, you know me, I always spam all the chawanmushi!

Crunchy vegetables.

Golden fried ebi.

Chicken wings.

The pastes here are the guy’s favorites. They are handmade! There were 3-4 choices to choose from.

Bouncy balls.

And even fresh seafood!!

The red prawns were really so damn good. Even better than the tiger prawns. They even have timings that you have to observe.

For example, red prawns are best boiled for 4 minutes.

What is Shabu Shabu without meat. Sliced perfectly, the shabu shabu meat melts in your mouth. Best paired with a raw egg and drinks. Everyone was literally rushing for them but thankfully, the staffs there refills them fast.

I would suggest you to avoid the noodles and go for the meat! :X

The two pots and huge table sits 6 pax comfortably.

After a sinful yet hearty meal, end it with fruits, warm desserts or ice cream.

What you see in this post is only part of the food found there. There is really a huge variety but that is not the best part of it.

The best part is the price.

*For every two pax dining in, customers will get a complimentary premium item of either wagyu beef or snow crab.

Even though we stay in the west part of Singapore, we traveled all the way to Balestier for this!

Find them at Balestier Shaw Plaza #04-01 Singapore 329783.

1 Market by Chef Wan

Honestly, I don’t know any buffet that is Halal because I am a Chinese. Having said that, I wouldn’t mind trying one!! I used to have issues with finding places for buffets with my Muslim friends until I met 1 Market.

1 Market is opened by Chef Wan, the famous Television Chef of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2009 and Tourism Malaysia’s Culinary Ambassador.

Hari Raya is approaching, so for the month of Ramadan (28 June to 27 July), Chef Wan will be whipping up dishes from around the world for all his foodie fans!! Yayyy to all the Muslim (and non Muslim) friends! You can get to try the different exotic specialties from different nations.

And from 10 July to 28 July, you will be able to find a whole truckload of seafood because they are running the Seafood Extravaganza everyday! The interior is very spacious so it can sit a school of people.

Well, as usual, James went to feast with me. We are both growing sideways already. HELPPPPP~ Keep all the good food away from us!!

The salmon was quite fresh and we helped ourselves to a third and fourth serving. But the limelight that night was the oysters. I think the guys were filled with Zinc to the brim that night. LOL.

Whenever a particular seafood runs out, it gets replenish fast. The waiting time was greatly shorten and everyone managed to try what they wanted. Keep the seafood coming babbbyyy.

The considerate thing was that the sauces were readily available beside all the food. For example, they had 3 big bottles of tabasco beside the plates. Save you on the snatching part.

The variety of cooked seafood/food was also huge. One of the hot item was this! It was wiped out within 5-10 minutes each time it was served.

Likewise for the satay.

Being a fan of Japanese Cuisine, I had to try out their sushi and Chawanmushi. There is just something addictive about the Chawanmushi. I had 6 cups that night.

And more cooked food!

There were also stations where you can create your own rojak or desserts like Ice Kachang.

Food that were prepared on the spot like Laksa or Mee Rebus were also one of my many options. The laksa was good. In fact, I would find it better than the laksa outside.

Desserts were not just plain desserts. From Kuehs to ice creams to green bean soup to cakes and many many more.

Please try their brownie and cheese cake when you are there.

You would normally expect to see a steeper price for the wide variety of food, especially with it being halal. But on the contrary, they are very affordable!

Promotion from now till 27 July 2014: Patrons who dine in a group of four will get to enjoy a special 4 For 3 promotion: the fourth diner gets to dine for free!

Prices:
Buffet Lunch: Mon – Fri: Adult: $26.80++ Child*: $13.80++ Sat, Sun, Eve PH and PH: Adult: $32.80++ Child*: $18.80++
