The Royal Mail

The Royal Mail Restaurant & Bar is housed within the culturally rich Ascott Raffles Place and serves modern interpretations of Classic British Cuisine where Roasts and Prime Rib take centre stage.

Drawing inspiration from the cuisine of Singapore’s colonial masters Group Executive Chef Micail Chepi and his team have introducted new starters, mains, roast, sides and desserts which are an impeccable combination of classics with a modern twist.

Highlights of the cuisine includes: Kurobuta Pork Chop with Apple Sauce, Lamb Fore Shank, Roasted Deboned Fish and Chestnuts & Grapes.

We often have the preception that fine dining is expensive and small in portion. To be honest, fine dining can be affordable. The price can be slightly more expensive than normal restaurants because the ingredients used are often the top-notch ingredients.

The Royal Mail has now come up with set lunch menu that brought fine dining to a whole new level!

I gave almost every dish a try.

Sous Vide Half Main Lobster – with Japanese pumpkin, crispy jamon lberico de bellota, saffron becurre blanc and port jus.

Sauteed Chestnut & Grapes


Duck Fat Baby Potato, Casserole of Mushrooms and more. There was also a Truffle side – Truffle Mashed Potato (which isn’t in any of the picture). The mashed potato was super good!!

For the main courses, my favourite was the Deboned Fish of The Day and Lobster Linguine.

The fish was so good that we had a second helping that night. Roashed whole fish with grilled lemon, garlic confit and scallion. A 4 out of 5 star dish.

It was literally roasted to perfection. Yummy. The serving of this course is quite huge whereby it can feed at least 3 – 4 pax.

Kurobuta Pork Chop – whose meat was extremely tender. It was accompanied with caramelised apple and apple jus, NOT POTATOES. Pork lovers gave it a 2 thumbs up that night.

Roast Prime Rib: The classic cut (280g). Served with sauteed brussels sprouts and molten blue cheese, pine nuts, roast whole garlic, yorkshire pudding and veal jus.

Now, meet the star of the night! It was lobster linguine with garlic, semi-dried tomatoes, chilli oil, lobster and squid ink espuma. I don’t really like to order squid ink pasta outside because some squid ink would stain the teeth. However, the squid ink espuma they use in The Royal Mail doesn’t!

It was so good that when it came, every one at my area took a scoop of it, leaving me with 3 mouthfuls only. Of course, I ordered a second serving! HEH. The pasta is silky smooth and the lobster was fresh and chewy.

I had so much food that night that I almost wanted to skip the desserts but I was told that Eton Mess was really good and it is a must try. So I tried!

I like the combination of strawberries, hazel nut crunch and Meringue. The mixture of devon cream and salted caramel balanced out the sweetness of the caramel.

Second pick for desserts would be the Chocolate Fondant – molten centre chocolate cake served with tahitian vanilla ice cream and freeze dried raspberry chocolate crumble.

We had so much fun gathering and trying out all the different dishes. Guys, you do not have to worry about spending too much on a fine dining date with this set lunch menu. It is going to keep your pocket safe!
