Momiji Japanese Buffet – GOOD!

I have long heard of Momiji Japanese Buffet but have never been there personally because I like to stick to my usual buffet place, which, surprisingly, also belongs to the same group of company as Momiji!

Being a vivid fan of japanese food, I wouldn’t allow myself to miss out on food tasting like this. The restaurant I went to is located at 55 Newton Road, Revenue House.

A King Crab feast was also taking place during the visit. The feast was supposed to end some time later but due to overwhelming response, the crabs are running out fast!! So while stock lasts! The king crab feast is available with a promotion price of $37.80+++ for an adult. I was expecting the price to go over $50 but no. It is this affordable!!

Although it is called the King Crab Feast, you can also find yourself indulging in the freshest sashimi, wagyu beef, kurobuta, shabu shabu, Teppanyaki and seaaafooooooodddddd.

While indulging in the food, you can also enjoy free flow of Sapporo beer….. yes, this is also included in the buffet…. Free flow of beer… Mmmm… How do they even make profit?!

If you want cooked food, you can always go for other options. They have a variety of premium items. You can have fresh, to grill, to steam and so much more!!

No japanese buffet is japanese if they don’t serve chawanmushi.

Guilty but not sorry, I had 4 cups of chawanmushi that evening.

Some local delights can also be found in the buffet. This suits my family so much. My mom and brother prefers local delights while my dad and me prefers Japanese food. What a good place for a family buffet dinner. And the entire meal for the table would only cost us less than $200!

Char siew.

Deep fried tofu.

Scallops.

Mouth watering teppanyaki.

For dessert wise, you can to choose from a huge variety as well!! There is free flow of Haagen-Dazes ice cream, cakes, moji, chocolates, cream puffs and fruits!

They are all of better quality – expensive ice creams, thick creamy chocolates, sweet fruits and chilled cakes!

Visit their Facebook for more information on the buffets available! – https://www.facebook.com/Momiji.JapaneseBuffet

On TV again!: Ramen Kagetsu Arashi

I believed this is not some new news to the readers because you guys might have already seen it before me. Yup, the TVC interview for Ramen Kagetsu Arashi is out on national TV already. If you haven’t watch it, I think you can catch it in the evening on either Channel 8 or 5.

They are ranked third most popular ramen chain in Japan with more than 290 outlets worldwide. And within a short span of 6 months, Ramen Kagetsu Arashi had already opened 3 outlets in Singapore! – Star Vista, Cathay and Tampines 1.

You can customise the flavours and add oomph to your dishes with the add-ons they have. One of it which caught my attention was the garlic where you can crush the garlic yourself with their unique garlic press tool.

The most popular broth is the Garlic Tonkotsu which bought fame to the restaurant. Now, they have done it again.

Two new exclusive dishes were introduced – Ginjiro ramen and Itameshi dry curry rice.

The Ginjiro ramen is a laborious dish but is well worth the effort. Pork bones are simmered over long hours so that their natural sweetness can be extracted, Dried bonito (the flakes that you can find in your Tako Balls), kelp and several ingredients are then tossed to achieve that flavoursome goodness.

Overall, this Kagetsu Ramen original is rich in collagen and a definite must-try.

I like the broth so much that I wouldn’t mind a second bowl. I don’t even care about the calories anymore. I asked about the egg, it wasn’t served with runny egg because it might affect the taste of the broth. For people who love runny eggs, you can order the egg as a side, just like what I did.

You know, I am feeling all hungry again as I type this. Or maybe… I just need to sip a few spoonful of the broth..

Itameshi dry curry rice. Although it says curry, but it is not spicy at all.

A blend of spices lends a moderately spicy punch; even those who cannot take spicy food will relish the perfumed mixture. The rice is slightly scorched to create a crispy texture and smoky aroma.

Resting atop the rice is a wonderfully prepared egg, fragrant and cooked to perfection.

Nic, my partner for the TVC shoot. We loved the food so much that we just had to order everything on the menu.

I ordered 2 bowls of ramen for myself that day. Not kidding yo! Besides that, other side dishes were ordered which the rest of them on the table happily finished them because I could no longer take in anymore food.

T commented that he really love this.

Gyoza, which was mixed with a DIY sauce dip that night.

The gyoza was filled with juicy meat filing on the inside and crispy pastry skin on the outside. The skin is specially imported from Japan and even after frying, it retains its crispiness and chewy texture.

T, Nic and me!

Happy boys and girl with happy tummy.

Good food! New found ramen stall…… added to my list of favourite restaurants.

Miam Miam Singapore

Newest French-Japanese Cafe kitchen offers delectable dishes made from scratch with top-grade ingredients and the prices are pocket friendly to the highest priced item only at $18.80.

Miam Miam, the French-Japanese fine casual cafe kitchen is a labour of love globetrotting friends with a passion for food. Marrying French techniques with Japanese inspired flavouries and ideologies, the team at Miam Miam is engineered to deliver a consistently excellent experience.

As you can see, it is located near BHG (level 2).

The dining space is casual and warm with the busy percussion of the kitchen playing in the background. The open space gives a full view of their centerpiece kitchen, living up to its cafe kitchen name.

For me, I am a noodles person rather than a rice person. I would pick ramen or pasta anytime in replacement of rice.

Talk about pasta, what I loved about them is the consistency of the pastas and Miam Miam pasta is definitely one of the best that I had tried so far.

The speciality is their Miam Miam Spaghetti which is priced at $15.80. I really gotta praise them on their generous servings of food. What you see in the picture is also what you will get when you dine there. Value for money!

Squid Ink Pasta at $16.80

Lobster Bisque Pasta ($18.80) was served with a grilled tiger prawn. It was the most expensive item in the entire menu but trust me, you can’t find this main outside for just $18.80.

My favourite main for that night was their Carbonara at $15.80. Unlike the usual carbonara you eat outside, the sauce is more watery than the creamy kind. The taste is very dependent on the egg yolk you see right in the middle.

Now for the rice, the Riz Au Curry ($15.50) is also one of the highly recommend. It is actually baked rice served with homemade Japanese Curry, pork frankurters, cheese, broccoli and egg. We all know that Japanese Curry ain’t really spicy, so the same for this, not exactly spicy at all!

The Souffle De Nauge ($15.50) was something that I wanted to try long ago. This top is made of egg and cheese. Like the Riz Au Curry, you can find bake rice underneath the richness.

A meal isn’t complete without desserts.

You gotta try Miam Miam Souffles. There are three flavours to choose from – Vanilla / Matcha / Chocolate.

Caramelised Apple Pancake ($12.80)

I was taken aback by the taste of the pancake because I had imagined the pancake to be bland and fluffy, but to my surprise, it was actually sweet and addictive (for me). I like it when the ice cream melts and made the entire pancake soggy 🙂

Chocolate Molleaux ($9.80). This is one really sinful devil! Chocolate and Ice cream. I think I can have 2 servings at one go!

Overall:

Food: 4/5 stars
Services: 3.5/5 stars
Ambience: 3.5/5 stars

LP+TETSU, 2 affordable & world class cuisines

Featuring LP-TETSU, whose chef is a One Michelin Starred Chef, Chef Laurent Peugeot who deftly executes both authentic Japanese and French styles with precision and ease.

Now, the lauded chef has created a variety of Japanese as well as French menus that are bound to wow his guests. These menus are the most affordable ones ever offered by a Michelin starred chef!

One example is the Japanese Bento Box ($28) shown above. Dig into the freshest selection of sashimi, breaded pork loin that has a crunchy exterior and tender inside.

How many fine dining places can you find at such prices (moreover, with a Michelin Chef)?

Surprisingly, the rice was my favourite item in the bento. It was so good that I don’t even mind having it plain.

Diners can look forward to Chef Peugeot’s unique ability to awaken all five sense during a meal. Not only do his creations smell and taste good, they are visually appealing as well.

Let’s go through some of the food that was in the menu that night.

My favourite course was the Tempura, Tofu, Mini Legumes, Dashi Consomme. The tofu was soaked in warm miso soup with fried tempura on the other plate. I really liked the miso soup so I had an extra serving of it that night.

Miso Red Fruits. Chiogga Beetroot with Duck Breast.

This was really tender and good. A nice blend of flavours and the meat was so soft and chewy.

My dessert was the refreshing Blood Orange Sorbet with chocolate, beetroot. You gotta finish it fast before the sobert melts!

With “Encounters”, the consummate chef turns everyday ingredients such as damon and duck breast into haute cuisines. If you prefer the french menus, you can choose to have either the 2 course or 3 course meal at $35 and $45 respectively.

The menu will change monthly so patrons can expect new surprises every month. They are available from 6 November onwards and from lunch to early dinner (7.30pm) daily.
