When Arbutus approaced me for a collaboration, I was really happy because James had always wanted a skeleton watch and from what I know initially, Arbutus is mostly automatic and skeleton! Furthermore, he did vaguely mentioned that he has been eyeing this brand ever since he saw one being worn by his female colleague.
We own a lot of watches but never has never own a pair of couple watch because we share our watches most of the time. I thought it will definitely make his day if I surprised him with a couple watch & moreoever, one which he desires! The collaboration was kept a secret and he will only knew about it when I pass him his for photos.. How sweet and cheeky?! Haha.
I was very happy when they gave me the liberty to choose whichever pair of couple watches I like. I must say it is a REALLY tough choice! Not because I didn’t know what the boy like but because of the fact that all their designs were s0000 attractive-looking! My hair-pulling session ended when my eyes rested upon the “AR813 Latticework Skeleton” range! I knew immediately that this pair is the one for us!
So here it is, the ‘Arbutus AR813 SWB MEN’S AUTOMATIC WATCH’! – comes in three colour combination of which two are shown below.

Apart from its sophisticatedly attractive styling & colour combination, I like the fact that this timepiece adopts a state-of-the-art automatic movement with a 40hours power reserve. Thus, making it a very practical choice for J’s daily work. This means that as long as he is wearing it, the mechanism will continue to be powered without the hassle of him having to meddle with the crown! Needless to add, the hassle of having to worry the issue of battery running out or time stopping which is very common among the hand-wound kind.
The AR813 range have a standard case diameter of 44mm which is a versatile sizing on most musculine wrists. So versatile it even fits smaller wrist like mine! The case material is made of stainless steel which gives much assurance on its durability & the glass comes with a nice tinge of sapphire coating present in most expensive luxury watches.
The straps used are genuine leather strap which gets better with every wear!
Furthermore, one noteworthy feature of the watch is its deployment set! Many a times, I couldn’t wear James’ watch as his wrist is far bigger than mine. Because of that, we have to go through hassle of finding someone to do the punching of additional holes which can also ruin the outlook of the leatherstrap. However, with this deployment set, it allows me to adjust the strap to my wrist size conveniently & independently!
To further enhances its attractiveness is its price tag ($508 – $529)! For a mechanical watch, I would think it is relatively kinder to consumers’ pocket compared to many mechanical luxury watch brands out there in the market. Very much thanks to Arbutus’ commitment to produce watches with reliable movements and designs at an affordable price for consumers.
Now.. Let me show you how happy he is, with his new watch 🙂 He just couldn’t take it off once he got hold of it! Even those luxury watches he owns have to give way to this one! I could see how well the classic design of his Arbutus watch matches with his daily executive outfits!
I can’t emphasize more how premium their watches look and it just ties up nicely with J’s usual preppy style 🙂 Their workmanship is simply flawless.
Look! The two proud owners of AR813 attending an event with their watches! Noticed here that J switched his watch with mine? Simply because he thought the silver one matches his outfit more. Well, no issues switching at all! Thus, being a boyfriend watch, it gives us the flexibility to switch our watches with each other as and when we like.
People would say the best gift one can give is their time. In this aspect with reference to Arbutus, I say the best I could give to my boy is this Arbutus timepiece!
