Oink this New Year at Millenia Walk

Author: Alex Chua

If you are a food aficionado (and especially one who fancied Japanese cuisine), then Millennia Walk could well be one of your favourite destination to satisfy your insatiable craving. Organized by Pontiac Land, Millenia Walk’s developer and mall management, this swanky behemoth hosts a festive 9-course reunion meal for media guests and influencers to dine and unwind in its spacious Grand Hall atrium. There’s a lot of rousing, posing and snapping during the event, with four long tables joined together making a cross smacked right in the center of happenings. There were also occasional activities like lucky draw (dining vouchers!) and tossing of yu sheng (courtesy of Poke Doke – one of Millenia Walk’s tenant – for their Poke Doke Original Yusheng). With all the excitement and chattering going on, food is nevertheless the reason why we were all gathered here. Here’s some of the Instagram-worthy dishes I’ve sampled and love it.

Yam Ring with assorted Vegetables by Elemen features a highly stylized black yam ring with flecks of sprinkled gold. Ultra-luxe looking with resemblance of a bird nest, there’s a delightful crunch with a distinctive whiff of aroma when you spoon down to it core of healthy greens. Being a vegetarian dish, I am mildly surprised that I quite enjoy it! (Part of CNY set at $42.80++ for 8 course)

The Whole Fortune Smoked Corn-Fed Chicken with house-pickles by Plentyfull has that meaty mouthfeels full of delightful juiciness when you munch into it like a caveman. The meat peels off easily from the bones and its oh-so tender and simply delicious. ($48 and available from 14 Jan to 19 Feb).

Love the contemporary plating of Crispy Pork Belly on Potato Cucumber Salad with Parsley mousse and Paulaner Dark Beer Sauce by Paulaner Brauhaus ($18.90++). The pork’s crackling skin and fat just makes it irresistible not to keep biting it to satisfy that crunch. Dip with the dark beer sauce to give it a more sedate, bitter-sweet note. The portion size is just right if not making the diner feels too heavy.

Frozen S’mores by The Dark Gallery ($9) features a Graham Tart Shell with their signature 80% dark chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate ganache and torched marshmallow. Heavenly especially for those with a sweet tooth, its not overly sweet but subduedly so, and it’s pure joy spoon after spoon.

Bask in reunion celebrations across more than 20 acclaimed dining outlets and spend $88 at any shop to stand a chance to win lucky draw for amazing prizes. Only in Millenia Walk from now till 19 February.

OLDTOWN White Coffee Launches Brand New Concept Store at Suntec City

Author: Alex Chua

I prefer my Kopi Siew Dai more than Flat White or Americano for a daily pick-me-up, so it is a pleasant surprise to know that OLDTOWN White Coffee is opening its latest concept store at Suntec City Mall. The first to embrace the market with a brand-new franchise concept which will be gradually rolled out internationally, this 243rd outlet boasts a new look, new technology and with a newly curated menu.

Old Town

Fitted with textured royal gold and light oak walls and dark brown marble coffee tables, the 88-seater café possesses that distinctive look reminiscent of the decorative art-deco style in vogue during Great Gatsby era. What is more interesting is the self-ordering kiosk. Adopting facial recognition into its ordering system, OLDTOWN White Coffee Suntec is the first to utilize this technology to boost their services. This means that all your past purchase history is recorded and they can provide a more personalized recommendations based on your buying behavior. While it sounds spooky to some, it really does gives greater convenience and recommendations to us.

old town

Of course, all the above has no impact without jolly good food and drinks, and OLDTOWN White Coffee Suntec does serve some tasty, authentic local treats. Giving its existing menu a modern twist, the outlet introduces the Popcorn White Coffee Latte and Coconut White Coffee Latte.

Can you imagine popcorn inside coffee? Neither can I, though the end result tastes all-so-sweet yet quite delicious cup of java. The caramel-encrusted popcorn ignites that sugar-rush in the creamy coffee; it is bound to spice you up for that next boring meeting or movie. The coconut kopi is more subtle though, I like the sprinkled coconut flakes which emit that whiff of tropical heaven.

Other whimsical, fancier concoctions are the cold brew series, featuring Sparkling Mango Coffee and other fruity favorites such as strawberry and orange. The Mango coffee is refreshing, soda fuzzy and the caffeine taste is quite mild, good to enjoy after meal to wash down the palate. Nevertheless, I still prefer my coffee piping hot with a strong caffeine kick, just the old me saying.

Now comes the hearty feast, which the menu is quite extensive. I was particularly charmed by the flavorful Prawn Meehoon Mee. Rich with the umami prawn essence, the full-bodied orangey broth is both subtly sweet and amp with spiciness. There are other delectable dishes such as Salted Egg Butterfly Prawns Nasi Lemak, Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun and Rendang Beef Nasi Lemak.

Saving the best for the last (actually, everything is pretty darn good!), the Satay Platters. Consisting of savory beef and chicken, this yummy local snack is absolutely a great after-work grub for the PMETs working there at Suntec.

Review: OPPO N3 Selfie Phone

Review

If you don’t have a digital camera and you are a camwhore, you should totally go for OPPO N3 because it has a flippable (206 degree of rotation) camera and it is 16MP!

What is OPPO?

“OPPO Electronics Corp. is a Chinese electronics manufacturer based in Dongguan, Guangdong province, China. Its major product lines include MP3 players, portable media players, LCD-TVs, eBooks, DVD/Blu-ray Disc players and smartphones.”

I never knew the existence of OPPO until  recently months where bloggers started switching their phones to OPPO just for the camera. They were founded back in 2001 and only had music players till 2008. Although it is from China, but don’t compare OPPO to other china phones where you can find them on the streets or at our marketplace because I can assure you the quality of OPPO after having reviewing one myself.

Design:

Well, you know I love white so the white OPPO definitely caught my attention. It has textured leather on the area where the camera is found which makes it look expensive and classy.

OPPO uses “Industrial quality steel in your hand” as the caption of this phone because the phone is made of Aluminium (which explains the weight).

The phone charges pretty fast too. I thought the battery was faulty until I went to googled for answers. I found out the phone can charge up to 75% in just 30 minutes! It is very user-friendly. Even my parents have no problem with the phone.

Screen:

I also love it’s large screen. My dad thought I bought it for him when he first saw it LOL. He love phones with huge screen. The screen is also 1920×1080 Full-HD!

Camera:

By the way, if you think the benefit is only how rotatable the camera is, you are wrong because you can also take photos remotely as it comes with an O-Click 2.0. It works like a remote control. Filters are also installed inside to beautify your pictures instantly. Try taking selfies using your current phone’s front camera, I can assure you N3 win hands-down!

Price:

For some, they might find it expensive, but as compared to the other smartphones out there, the price is quite reasonable. It is currently retailing at $849 in Singapore. However however however…. they are having a student promotion where selected tertiary education institutions can look forward to discounrs of $50 off the N3.

They also have another model – R5 at $30 off for students as well! R5 is currently retailing at $669 before discount.

Downside(s):

I think the downside is that you might have difficulty finding cheap phone casing for this phone and it is a little too heavy for me (192g). But trust me, I don’t want a light or plastic phone too.

Alive Museum Experience

PH on a Monday. So where where where?

I had a media invitation to Alive Museum so I had it fixed on the public holiday! Yes yes yes, plans checked!

Alive Museum is Korea’s original and biggest chain of illusionary entertainment museum, and it is now live in Singapore! Each ticket is priced at $25 for Adults 13 years and above. There is also an ongoing promotion of 2 Adults + 1 Child at $60.

Remember to bring your camera there because that is the MAIN PURPOSE there right? TAKE ALL THE PICTURES!

For my visit, you will see more photos of James than me because he has better posing and acting skills. LOL.

We took a lot of pictures that day and I thought he looked really dumb in this baby suit. HAHAHAHAHAHAA. *pinch pinch*

There are directions beside each illusion to guide you on the position to pose and where should the cameraman stand to capture the best illusion.

I don’t know to call him sexy or dirty LOL.

Thank you for hosting us on a PH, and thank you for the laughters.

Venue: Alive Museum, Suntec City #03-372 (between Towers 3 and 4)

Don’t miss this attraction! Add it to your must-visit list!
