AGNES Treatment to Get Rid of Stubborn Acne and Pimples

Being a guy used to be easy. Men were known to keep everything to the basics, just one hard soap is enough to scrub from head to toe, without a care in the world, much less on appearance.

But not now.

I’ve got many skin problems, and one that irks me the most is pesky acne and pimples. It is a skin condition triggered by overactive oil glands. When pores are clogged with too much sebum produced by the oil glands, the pimple pops up.

Have tried a million different things – changing different pimple creams and facial wash, and visited polyclinic for that birth control pill prescription twice, with little or temporary success. What results is dry, sensitive skin and scarring on certain areas. I thought that every option to eradicate this problem has been tried and failed, there is nothing I can do except to watch my diet and hope for the best.

But I was wrong. The solution couldn’t be simpler.

Thankfully, Dr Ryan Tan at Aesthetics Central Clinic at Clarke Quay Central is here to the rescue. Dr Ryan suggested AGNES Treatment for my first acne treatment. It is a permanent, non-surgical solution to treat my stubborn acne.

Separated to 2 days, on the first day Dr Ryan will use a special device called AGNES to administer radiofrequency energy precisely on specific problem areas. This tiny burst of electrical energy will cause the affected oil gland to shrink and produce less oil.

On the second day, acne extraction by the beautician.

First, Dr Ryan demarcates the acne areas – an important step as there are 100,000 good, normal functioning pores, and only about 300-500 diseased damaged pores that are always getting inflamed and infected repeatedly. Dr Ryan inspects at every single pores and selectively selects the problem causing ones for treatment.

Next is the numbing shots, which to me felt like ant bites. Okai to be honest there are jabs on certain areas that woke me up from slumber (Yes I am that tired lol), but his assistant used a vibrator-like thingy to numb area while Dr Ryan administer the injection, making it much less painful.

The same 1% of the pores on the face are responsible for causing 90% of the acne

Then comes the AGNES treatment, which felt like a breathe of sunshine as compared to the previous numbing shots. Its amazing considering its a special needles but there’s no feeling at all, perhaps partly thanks to the numbing shot taken earlier. Dr Ryan zaps only 1-2% of the thousands of pores, so good thing is I won’t be experiencing any dry skin or flakiness after the treatment as compared to other solutions!

It is completely pain-free during the AGNES Treatment. Although the machine sound might be somewhat distracting with its constant beeping, it is all in all a pleasant virgin experience for me.

The treatment takes about one and a half hour from arrival to exit, so it is quite fast and, more importantly, painless for me. Although I experience some redness and swelling immediately after the treatment, it doesn’t stop me from going out for dinner. Of course, I must remember to hydrate, moisturize and sunscreen.

One month after the treatment, the redness has subsided and I am quite pleased with the results. The zapped problematic pimple areas have no recurrence so far and there is no drying or sensitivity. My face also felt much less oilier than before. Understand that, depending on person to person, it may require 1 to 3 treatments or more to prevent new acne from forming from existing healthy pores.

And the best thing of all, it is permanent, so no need to compare between harsh pimple creams or taking medication that is not ideal for kidney again!

Shopping for necessities at Guardian Singapore

Where do you usually shop for your beauty necessities?

For me, I try to shop for them at places near home because I tend to stock up a few bottles of each product at one go. Thankfully, Guardian can be found almost anywhere!

Here are some products that I got from Guardian which I am currently using on top of the usuals that you have already seen on my Instagram!

1) Facial Masks

If you watch my Instagram stories, you will notice that I mask very frequently. Almost once every 2 days. I literally buy masks everywhere and Guardian carries a lot of brands with one of my top favourite being Dr. Morita!

I have to admit that I stock the mask up even more when they have 30% off during Guardian Beauty Days 😛

2) Aprilskin Perfect Magic Cover Fit Cushion

Aprilskin is exclusively available in Guardian Singapore stores only. I have previously tried 3-4 of their cushions and my favourite is none other than their Aprilskin Perfect Magic Cover Fit Cushion because of the dewy finish. This brand is also exclusively available in Guardian only.

Antipodes is a New Zealand skincare brand that contains no nasties – safe for people with sensitive skin. The brand is also certified as organic and vegetarian. In fact, this is my very first bottle of Antipodes and I am pleasantly surprised by the results.

My skin feels very nourished and hydrated ever since I starting using the Day Cream. They have other products as well so do visit Guardian if you are keen to give them a try.

4) Pantene Micellar Water Pure & Cleanse Shampoo

We have heard of Micellar Water but shampoo? It’s a first for me! Guardian sent me 2 bottles of them and I am now a fan.

Just like the micellar water make up remover, the shampoo cleans the hair really well. It felt as though my hair was stripped off from greasy oil, hair sprays and dirts from the environment. Coupled with the treatment, it leaves my dry hair moisturised and slightly less frizzy.

5) Schwarzkopf got2b Volumaniac Bodifying Mousse

After every hair wash, I always end the day/night with hair oil or hair treatment. On most nights, I use their in-house brand Botaneco Garden Organic Chair Seed Oil & Honey on my hair. And because I love having extra volume on my hair, I will sometimes couple it with Schwarzkopf got2b Volumaniac bodifying mousse for that extra boost!

Schwarzkopf hair products smell so good on my hair that I can leave the house without perfume. They have the Seborin series which can help with hair loss problems too.

Of course, there are too many products for me to list because I shop at Guardian a lot but I hope that you will find my little reviews useful!

ALBION Milk First – EXAGE Advance Milk and Moist Full Lotion Review

I have been using the ALBION EXAGE range for close to a month now and I really LOVE the after effect! My skin glows after every use. Yes you heard me right – after every single use.

First things first, the Clear Moist Wash has a very creamy texture that I love. My skin feels bouncier right after every wash. I have very dry skin so it is very rare for my skin to feel bouncier after a wash. Sometimes, my skin feels tight with certain face wash and that is when I know that the product isn’t suitable for me.

For their Step 2 and 3, it is highly recommended to use their facial cotton for their milk and lotion as it helps to enhance the absorption.

I love the pleasant scent of both the Milk and the Lotion. They have a very soothing scent which starts and ends my day right. The milk lotion has a creamy texture and 3 pumps are all you need for your entire face.

The Lotion on the other hand, has a milky watery texture. Massage the milk into your skin and pat the lotion onto your face with the cotton pad gently. Doing it the correct way can help shrink the size of your pores if you have enlarged pores like mine.

Eucerin® Hyaluron-Filler Overnight Treatment – A non-invasive solution

Prevention is always better than cure. This is why I choose to start my anti-aging skincare regime while I’m in my twenties! While other consumers my age are exploring options like fillers and botox injections, I’m constantly on the lookout for skincare products that work just as well in giving me smooth and radiant skin.

As I age, I find my skin getting thirstier despite applying skincare every day and night. I even tried masking frequently to see if it helps with the dehydration and dull complexion. While I do see improvements in my complexion, I have no idea which are the products that actually work well for me.

Recently, I was introduced to Eucerin®’s new product, Hyaluron-Filler Overnight Treatment. This product is a non-invasive overnight treatment that is inspired by well-known dermatological treatments. It helps to fill your wrinkles without injections & give you a radiant look. I have been using it every night ever since I got my hands on them.

Along with the new addition are some products in the same Hyaluron-Filler range, which have already been launched.

Packaging and first impressions

I thought that the packaging for the Overnight Treatment was very interesting, as there are two different emulsions that are packed separately in the bottle itself. I guessed these 2 separate formulas could mean that the product served 2 different functions? I did some quick research on my own, and I was right! The Overnight Treatment is a dual efficacy anti-aging skin care product, gently exfoliating and removing dead skin cells for a radiant look while hydrating and plumping up the skin. The formulas are optimally preserved in different chambers to keep them fresh and effective.

Formulation and Usage

The product contains two ingredients, AHA and Hyaluronic acid, which are popular ingredients inspired by dermatological treatments that are known to be effective for cell renewal and wrinkle filling.

On the left (white): A creamy emulsion of AHA Complex & Saponin that exfoliates dead skin cells and stimulates skin cell renewal to bring back your face’s natural radiance.

On the right (silver): A gel serum of Long and Short Chain Hyaluronic Acid to keep skin moisturized and hydrated. I looked it up and the Short Chain Hyaluronic Acid is actually 40x smaller which allows deeper penetration into the skin to plump up the deepest wrinkles.

You can see two different formulas when you pump the product out. I was expecting the texture to be a little on the heavy side since it is an anti-aging product but it was all good. It felt lightweight on the skin, and there was no greasy feel after you apply it onto your face – creating a perfect base to layer on my night moisturisers. For better absorption, I chose to massage it onto my face for at least 30 seconds for better penetration.

What I like most about the Overnight Treatment is that the Hyaluronic Acid in the serum not only moisturizes your skin but it also helps to plump up your deepest wrinkles while you sleep! I am more concerned about my smile lines so I tend to rub a little longer at those areas. Do note that since this product contains AHA ingredients, it should only be used at night to avoid pigmentation issue. In addition to the Overnight Treatment, I’ve also been trying out the other products in the Hyaluron-Filler range.

I have previously finished 6 tubes of Hyaluron-Filler Concentrate and they worked really well for me. The intensive serum not only helps to visibly reduce wrinkles, but also results in my face feeling a lot smoother as well.

What I have recently started on are the Eucerin® Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment and Day and Night Cream. I wouldn’t say that I have wrinkles around the eye area now but I am applying them with hopes that they don’t appear soon.

The Eye Treatment can be used in the day after your day moisturizer, and it is fortified with SPF15 and UVA protection too.

Overall Thoughts

Having found out that Eucerin is a dermatological brand that has been around in the market for more than 130 years, I’m sure to put my trust in this brand. I have started incorporating several of its products into my night time skincare regime, and after using them over the past few weeks, I can definitely see the results so far.

As mentioned, I’m very concerned about my smile lines but with the daily usage of the Overnight Treatment coupled with the other products in the range, my smile lines were visibly reduced. My foundation does not cake around the line areas and I can laugh to my heart’s content without worrying about the smile lines anymore. It is indeed a non-invasive alternative that can achieve the same results of combatting lines and wrinkles, while keeping my skin radiant and moisturized.

REVIEW: W.Lab K-beauty brand is finally in Singapore!

If you haven’t already know, W.Lab is finally available in Singapore!! It was originally founded in 2013 in Korean, but Thank you Aresa Singapore for bringing it in! Honestly, W.Lab is a fairly new brand to me but I have heard beauty bloggers raving about it before! I saw their stores in myeongdong too!

What I love about the brand is that they emphasises the use of natural ingredients so lesser chemicals are introduced into their products. This benefits people who have sensitive skin a lot because they can’t use every single brand out there. I may not have sensitive skin but trust me, when I shop for my cosmetics and body care, I tend to go for products which contains lesser chemicals.

Even though we were sponsored with a whole range of their products, I am only going to share with you some of my favourites! What attracted me to Blossom White Cushion was the packaging. I thought the coverage was going to be light but BOOMS, when I spread it evenly over my face, my pores were gone instantly!

It is available in 3 shades, 13, 21 and 23. I am currently using 21 if you need to know! 🙂

It works like a skincare too as it has anti-aging and wrinkle improvements properties. So if you think that you are too old for it, NOPE! Give it a try! The cushion also contains 33% Damask Rose Water, yay! I hope that they will come out with some refill pack or something soon!

Another makeup product that I seriously need to rave about is their eyeshadow palettes – W.Lab Pocket Shadow Palettes. I knew I was in love when I first saw them because of the colours. Each palette contains both glittery and matte colours which means that you can use them for a day or night look.

Some people may find it hard to achieve a glittery look for the eyes because glittery eyeshadows are usually not so pigmented but you will be surprised to find the colours are actually fairly pigmented. The swatches below are done with a single swipe. I must say that the glitters didn’t fail me.

W.Lab has a lot of different blushers but we were given Bling Bling Cheek during the event. Just 1 swipe and you can get gradient cheeks! So effortlessly easy.

The Velvet Colour Stick sure lives up to its name. It has a creamy and velvety texture that glides onto the lips easily. How do my Chilly Red shade fare?

Even though it is quite pigmented, I am glad to share that it is easy to wash off as well.

A makeup look isn’t complete if you don’t have a contour palette or W.Lab Color Master Cover Kit.

This small palette here contains 6 shades to address your flaws (if any). The Flower Lip & Cheek Kit comes in a similar packaging and the colours are surprisingly highly pigmented. If you need you change your lip colour at least two times a day, simple slot this into your makeup pouch any day!

I tend to have oily face after spending half a day outdoor and I think I am not the only one having this issue. With the weather so crazily hot in Singapore, how can our make up not melt or look greasy after 5 hours?

This leads to my next product, Sebum Out Finish Pact. After I am done with my look, I tend to finish it off with Sebum Out Finish Powder, followed by the Finish Pact. If you have the same issue as me, you can pad on some Finish Pact powder every 4 hours to mattify your face. It can also reduce sedum secretion and brighten your overall complexion at the same time.

So love the texture!

Enough of make up. How about their skincare? Here’s my verdict! Do take note that they have more than just these. I am just sharing some of my favourites 🙂

I got people asking me questions like – What is a Cleansing Balm? What does it do?

Simply put, a Cleansing Balm is a make up remover. I personally feel that it is almost the same as an oil-based makeup remover.

The texture? It feels a little powdery and oily but that is what makes cleansing easier. A simple scoop of it can effectively clean away an entire face of make up. Remember to use a facial cleanser after that though. Like most make up remover, this is not a 2-in-1 thing. I am quite sure I will be buying the cleansing balm again after my first tub.

I love their pore series – Black Kill too!! Probably because I am very into pores products recently HEHE. I need to praise their Black Kill Pore Cleanser because of the rubber brush!

The brush is soft and gentle enough for my cheeks. Suitable for very very lazy people like me.

Don’t judge my pores but this is how I use it! I press the button to dispense some cleanser twice and rub them on my cheeks for a good 30 seconds on each side.

They have other products like Body Scrub, Cleansing Foam and even Quick Whitening Cream. I haven’t had the time to try them out but if I ever do, I will share the verdicts with you guys! 😀

It’s advisable to put on additional layer of sunblock if you’re planning to be in the sun for a longer period of time.

Maybeline’s take on the toner: The texture is a little soapy at first, which is a little different from other toners that I have tried but it doesn’t leave a sticky feeling. The toner also comes with whitening and anti-wrinkling benefits.

James’s favourite among all was the ampoule: I needed instant effect so I tend to focus more on essence and ampoules. It feels a little sticky when I apply too much but ampoules are usually a little more dewy. Super Aqua Ampoule is said to have moisturizing content 6000x its own weight so I am hoping it can help me with my dry skin after a few months. I also like it because it’s a dropper – fuss free.

Our view for the Foam Cleanser: We don’t like cleansers that makes the skin feel tight and this cleanser fits right.

Now… for the Day (left) and Night Cream (right). We like the fact that the Day cream comes with additional UV blocking function (SPF20/PA+). Texture for the Day cream is lighter than the Night cream even though both keeps the skin moisturized.

The Day cream protects the skin from external elements and has rich moisture and nutrition from lavender and pansy extracts while the Night cream has thews vegetable extracts (lavender, cornflower and pansy) to help restores the skin to the healthy state after an entire day outside.

Texture of Day Cream – smooth and absorbs fast into the skin.

The POREDERM – Pore Tightening Serum is something both of us are very much looking forward to because we wanna kiss goodbye to pores.

Japanese Skincare – SANA sheet masks

I was recently introduced to a new brand in my list. When the parcel reached me, I have colleagues telling me “Hey, this is one of the most famous brand in Japan!”

This famous brand is none other than SANA – https://www.facebook.com/Sana.Singapore. I have tried it for 2 weeks and I am loving how easy and instant the effect is. It keeps my skin moisturized and supple. Take a look at the picture below for evidence:

Remember, nobody is too early for anti-aging. You can start using anti-aging products as early as mid twenties.

I have my reasons to why I love these mask sheets!

1. They are very easy to use and convenient. Take them out like some facial wipes and spread it around the face. So clean and neat!

2. The elasticity of the mask is 188% where other mask stands between 107% to 133% only.

3. They are very affordable and SASA Singapore is currently running a promotion on them where you can get the 2nd buy at 50% off! (So affordable that I stocked up a few packets myself for my mom and James)

The security seals make sure that the masks are clean. Don’t even put those opened ones on your skin. It’s the face we are talking about yo!!

When you open the masks, you can see all the goodness inside. Be very very amazed by the amount of essence you can find in each piece of mask.

It contains vegetable collagen, fermented liquor of soybean, Hyaluronic Acid and Derivative of Vitamin C.

As for the Anti-aging Sheet Mask, it contains Fermentated liquor of soybeanxRetinol. People have experienced anti-wrinkle efficacy effect after 4 weeks of application!

You can use them on a daily basis for 5 minutes before bed time, or before your usual make up routine.

Look at the dear boy enjoying himself. Soaking his face with the essence. But this was taken 10 minutes after the application so the mask was a little drying up already. I tend to mask a little longer than the time stated cause I am a typical Singaporean. Kiasuuuu. Lol
