ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 6 inch Full HD (ZE601KL)

This phone review is going to be slightly different from my usual ones. Before that, let me start off with a disclaimer – ASUS or Apple did NOT pay me to praise nor slam any brands.

I will be comparing ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 6 inch Full HD with my current phone (iPhone 5s). Any negative/positive remarks are made solely based on my honest review. As much as I know I should be comparing A to A but I can only compare these two phones as I have personally used them both before. I hope my experience will help shed some light for those who are considering between the ASUS phone or iPhone

Being an Apple user for almost a decade, I can’t live my life without Apple products even for a day, Basically, I have almost used every range of their products from their iPod, iPad, iMac, Macbook right up to their iPhone. What sense of loyalty one would say!

When I first received ASUS, I find it hard to navigate because I am not used to other operating systems. For people like me who rely on Apple products a lot, you will need time to get adjusted to the ASUS operating system.

One of my favourite pastime is to watch drama, cartoons and movies. Hence, I have a tendency to watch them on my phone instead of my tablet due to its portability. With regards to this, the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 6 inch definitely win hands down because the screen is way bigger than my current iPhone 5s (see bottom) without compromising on the battery life (read below on the battery life).

A fairer comparison would come from iPhone 6 Plus. However, the price point of iPhone 6 Plus is not as favorable as the ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 6 inch. An ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser 6 inch cost less than $400 while an iPhone 6 plus easily cost more than $1000 🙁

Therefore, the visual enjoyment derived from ASUS at a more affordable price point definitely serve as a plus factor for me as compared to iPhone family despite not having a retina screen.

Another noteworthy feature of the ASUS phone is their speakers. Why so? Simply because they have the world’s best smartphone speakers. The dual speaker phone is said to provide sound at supreme quality levels and proven to be better than other world-class competitors. This means to say that you get to save your ears turning red from those long hours of earphones when you are watching drama.

A lot of people complaint about how iPhone’s screen crack easily but I drop my phone almost everyday and my screen is still safe and sound without any protection. *TOUCH TOUCH TOUCH WOOD*

On the other hand, ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser ZE601KL comes with Gorilla® Glass 4 which offers twice the drop-damage resistance of its predecessor and is 85% less likely to break in daily use. Durability wise, how does that sound like for you?

However, I have yet to put the ASUS phone to its durability by accidentally dropping it. So I shall just give them both a tie in this aspect.  At least, I would say both are equally durable enough for my daily usage.

For the battery life, iPhone lost. In short, the battery life of iPhone seems to drain off faster than ASUS. As such, I would consider not bringing my portable battery charger out if I was out with my ASUS phone. Certainly not the case if I was using my iPhone 5s. J is using an iPhone 6 and he complains the same thing too which I presume is because of the 4G connection. So I guess needless to compare with iPhone 6.

We know that all powerbank uses the same cable head. One other drawback to the iPhone especially when it comes to this charging aspect, you will have to bring 2 cables out. 1 to charge the powerbank (at work) and 1 to charge iPhone whereas all the other brands such as ASUS uses the same cable head.

For design wise, I am sold to both. I like both designs equally because both of them look expensive and classic. It will be good if the phone comes with earphones and phone cover 😀

ZenFone 2 (ZE601KL) is powered by a 64 bit Octa Core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S616 processor, which is ample for our daily usage. Both download speeds for iPhone and ZenFone 2 Laser (ZE601KL) are comparable for my case because I only have to download emails, pictures and whatsnot daily.

And for me, I rely a lot of phone camera too. ASUS ZenFone 2 (ZE601KL)’s camera surprised me with its quality as the rear camera has laser auto-focus technology for fastest possible clarity on top of being 13MP.

If you think that the backlight is too strong, you can tame the brightness with Backlight (Super HDR) Mode. I think every phone should come with this mode because backlight spoil pictures!!

Last but not least, let’s not forget that the phone is dual-sim card. Good for people who travels often!

Here’s a summary of the functions:

I hope you like my review as much as I do.
