The Silk Road With Shanghai Tang

Sponsored

I was invited to attend the launch of new fragrance collection from Shanghai Tang, a renowned fashion label that originates from Hong Kong since 1994 : The ‘Silk Road Fragrance’ Collection.

The Silk Road is widely recognized around the world as the most pronounced historical route that spans 4,000 miles, connecting the West & the East in a network of trade and cultural transmission. The Shanghai Tang fragrances aims to capture the essence of this cross-continental journey.

Noticed the model in this picture? She is famous Chinese Supermodel, Du Juan. This picture was beautifully captured by famous fashion photographer, Mario Testino. Both work in unison to capture the vision of this fragrance and mystical wonders from the Silk Road.

Inspired by rich Chinese culture and imperial craftsmanship, Carlos Bernaim (a master perfumer) has created 8 (a lucky number in the chinese culture) unique scent embodying the flora and spices from the Silk Road. Each scent tells a different story of the famous Silk Road journey in China. Out of the 8 scent, 5 are women fragrances and 3 are for men.

For those who believe in fengshui, this collection will make a fine gift. Firstly, each fragrance comes in a bottle that contains a Shòu symbol, the Chinese symbol of longevity, on the top of its cover. Furthermore, for the women’s fragrance, it displays the engraved symbol in enamel and gold leaf on the cap. If you observe the female bottle, the cap and ‘ball’ within the bottle, make the number ‘8’ again which is a symbol of balance and an inverted infinity sign which conveys the meaning of forever.

The women’s fragrance bottle displays the engraved symbol in enamel and gold leaf on the cap. For men, the fragrance bottle is presented in clean lines and adorned with a glass cap handcrafted by artisans.

For Him:

Mandarin Tea – Mandarin, Neroli, Tea, Lemon, Petitgrain
Jade Dragon – Bergamot, Tea Leaves, Vetiver
L’Orient – Atlas Cedar, Leatherwood, Nutmeg

For Her:

Each women fragrances feature a different flower.

Orchid Bloom – Orchid, Red Fruits, Musk
Rose Silk – Magnolia, Rose
Oriental Pearl – Patchouli, Benzoin, Vanilla, Labdanum
Gold Lily – Gingerlily, Musk
Spring Jasmine – Jasmine, Olibanum

Shanghai Tang Orchid Bloom was introduced to use along with SG50. Orchid is our national flower so what a timely launch!

Orchid is resilience and long lasting, just like Singapore, isn’t it?

It has a musky floral smell that isn’t overpowering. Among the sophisticated scent, there lies a tinge of berries which somehow made me felt more than just a lady. The fragrances for women are also infused with musk and sandlewood to reminiscence the sensuality of the Silk Road.

Find them at Takashimaya counter at SGD165/60ml. Do try out the rest of the collection too.
