What does the number ‘7’ reminds you of? For me, its the 7 Deadly sins in the bible context.
I wouldn’t say it applies to the ‘7’ in Cafe7 Burger-Grill-Bar which we had our food tasting this time around. If it does hold any relevance, then it can only be one sin in there which we were all guilty of: Gluttony! Simply because most of their food were just pure Yummy-ness!
Without further ado, let me just take you through our food journey at Cafe7 which is nestled in the district of Telok Ayer.
Anyway, I didn’t drive on that day because I had a whole day of meeting in office. Nonetheless, there was not much issue reaching the cafe by public transport as it is located conveniently near to the Telok Ayer MRT (Blue Line) – Approximately a 5-10mins walk to the cafe at most. Better burn some calories before you pump them in during dinner which I am pretty sure you gonna have quite a fill at dinner due to the generous portion offered!
And so we were given freedom to order any food we desire for this food tasting! So we started to look around for the Chef hat symbol on the menu. Well, indeed the reccommended food choices were indicated with a chef hat symbol by the side & here we have them..
Bubba Shrimps (USA Recipe) – I love the deep-fried crispy texture of the prawns & I would say not only was the recipe from USA. Even the portion was also inherited from USA. Maybel & I couldn’t finish them all. I would think this is good for 3-4 to share!
The second Antipasto with the Chef Hat logo which I personally think is a MUST-TRY in Cafe7 is this..
Deep Fried White Bait with rocket salad & Italian Tomato – for those new to White Bait, it is simply a fish dish which you do not have to worry about the bony issues! The white baits here were fried to a good level of crunchiness without being too oily. Taste wise, I would say it was palatable without being too saltish thus making the tiny fish dish the BEST starter we had for the evening!
Well, too bad I had too much good choices of food so the greenies & tomato just got to be left attended this time around! Lol!
The starters did not steal all the limelight as we had fantastic Mains too!
So as usual, M ordered her favourite spagetti dish: Aglio Olio. The version offered here comes with Olive Zucchini Chicken and Cherry tomatoes serves in Aglio Olio Sauce.
Undeniably, in terms of visual wise, it does score doesn’t it?
How about taste wise? Personally I would have preferred the Aglio Olio taste to be stronger. But it isn’t entirely the chef’s fault as taste is subjective and I had been exposed to stronger flavours since young after frequent trips to Malaysia which houses food with very strong flavours. So for local taste buds, this would have been just nice. Noodle wise, I am glad to say it was rather ‘Q’ while the chicken cubes were all tender & juicy.
Whereas for myself, I just couldn’t resist the temptation of sinking my teeth into a good slice of beef. Hence, the choice was naturally their most celebrated Glazed Fillet Mignon – basically it was pan seared tenderloin glazed with beef juices served with roasted potato and seasonal vegetable.
I had it Medium well this time around. Totally ignoring the fact that the best way to have a beef is to have it Medium rare not well! Why so? Because the longer you cook a steak, the tougher and drier it gets. Medium-rare steaks give you the maximum amount of tenderness and juiciness while ensuring that the center of the steak is actually warm.
Well, to my pleasant surprise, the steak remained tender despite me requesting for it to be cook beyond the ideal tenderness level at medium well done. Juice wise, you gonna have more than you ask for! The plate was filled with beef juice which would eventually soak up by the beef itself. They also incoporated some spices on the top of the beef to enhance its flavouring which i thought was a fastastic move!
Ultimately.. this was our dinner for that night!
On the whole, I would give it a 4 out of 5 thumbs up for the good level of food offered & its nice ambience! The one star drop was mainly due to my own personal preference for stronger flavour for the Aglio Olio. Ran out of place to explore in Telok Ayer Street? This one definitely deserve your attention so do check it out!
