Stroff – Internship or Part Time Jobs?

If you are a student in Singapore, internships are nothing new to you. I am in the Science field, so I have been to different hospitals (including IMH), clinics, or lab for attachments. Singapore internship – it is something required before you go out to work. Some also choose to do an internship before they decide if they wanna work in the field for long after graduation and I think this is a really wise choice.

I used to hold 3 different jobs at one go when I was in Polytechnic and University. It wasn’t really about money issues but I would rather spend my time doing something constructive like working part time than hanging around after school.

Some examples of part time job I used to hold are:

1) Giving tuition

2) Doing sales in a fashion boutique shop

3) Helping out at events

4) Health checks (more like voluntary than a paid job)

When I was in my uni days, I used to give 4 kids tuition at one go. I have motion sickness so I drive to school everyday to avoid taking the 1 hour train ride so giving tuition was very convenient for me. I would also try to arrange 2-3 kids a day during some days whereby lessons would end at 1pm and each kid would take about 1.5 – 2 hours. Taking in more kids and arranging them on the same day would mean that I have more off days for events and blogging (which sometimes I see as a part time job too).

To me, I feel that part time jobs for students is a MUST no matter how rich the parents are. It trains the kid to grow up stronger as they are able to endure more hardship and know the value of money.
