Misconception about “FREEBIES” for Bloggers

I hate it when people says “Bloggers get a lot of freebies”. I got this so damn often that I got so used to it and I no longer explain that the items we received are NOT freebies.

Worst is when people even scrutinize the clothes I wear and the make up I use. Yes, you paid for your own clothes and cosmetics. But not using money to buy them doesn’t mean they are free for us either.

Let me share with you the most sarcastic remark I got this year:

“She picked her clothes from XXX but I used money to pay for my clothes”.

Inside me, I was actually fuming like shit and I swear I almost confronted that person who made this comment. I sucked it up because there were friends around. But deep down, I felt insulted and NOT RESPECTED.

Yup, we do get a lot of clothes, cosmetics or even household appliances through blogging.

But how do you know that they are free?

I hold a full time job – not many people know this. More than half of the bloggers I know has a full time job too.

Blogging is like a hobby to me, so whatever I got from the events is a bonus. I don’t lust after every item I see. I worked hard for whatever I have.

Bloggers attend events at least 1-3 days after work every week and reach home only near midnight after events/dinner.

After mingling and spending time at the event, we have to spend another few hours blogging. Aren’t we paying back the items using our hard work, efforts and time?

If you love to pay for the items through blogging, anyone is free to start a blog too. It isn’t that hard really. But before you judge us for the items we receive, you should try the hard work yourself too. Nothing comes too easy.

I hope more people can empathise with us instead of calling us free loaders. I am very thankful towards people who can see the handwork behind and I am glad to have meet some in my life.

Stop the hate, show us some love instead.

X.
