New Year New Skin Clarity – Removing Acne Scars the Painless Way with Secret RF

Pimples come and go, but acne scars are like permanent marks on the face. You don’t need a close inspection to notice the acne scars on my cheeks and forehead, the contours look just like the uneven sand playground my nephews love to play at. 1 month after treatment, the scars has pretty much lightens already

Thankfully, a friend recommended me to visit Aesthetics Central Clinic at Clarke Quay Central, and scheduled an appointment with Dr Ryan Tan, who has a decade of experience in the aesthetics treatments. Dr Ryan suggested Secret RF for my first acne scar treatment – a revolutionary non-surgical treatment that uses fractional radio frequency (RF) and micro-needles for the treatment of depressed acne scars like boxscars, ice-pick scars and rolling scars. It also has added benefit of skin tightening and lifting, and addressing signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.

The Treatment
Before commencing the treatment, my face is washed and subsequently numbing cream is applied by the assistant. Then I waited outside for around 30minutes for the numbness to take effect. Dr Ryan then proceeded to inject 2 shots of local anesthesia onto my cheek to reduce the pain.

As I have a low pain threshold, the Secret RF treatment is surprisingly not as pain as I thought to be, almost pain-free. All I hear is the zapping from the Secret RF device and light flashing while the device work its magic around my face.

As you can see, while there is no bleeding or bruising, my face is red and abit swollen immediately after the treatment. To speed up the recovery process I will need to apply anti-biotic cream for 5 days, and remember to hydrate, moisturize and sunscreen!
Nevertheless, I went out after the session to meet friends as its weekends.

A week after the treatment, the redness has subsided after 2 days and I am quite happy with the results as the acne scars have reduced, especially on my right side of the cheek. The skin is also much smoother and whiter too! I was told that I will require a combination of treatments such as Infini Acne Scar Treatment or CO2 laser to achieve better results.

Just see the above before treatment and after treatment comparison, the skin condition is so much better. Confidence restored! Nevertheless, as the scars has been haunting me for a decade plus already, more sessions are needed to completely zap away these acne scars.

Clear Skin Always With D’Skin

Having good skin is important no matter if you͛re male or female. Be it heading for job interviews, weddings or important functions to attend, a good first impression starts with a supple, glowing face to front. And here at DSkin, the leading anti-aging experts with over 10 years of presence in Singapore, is here to help me fulfil just that. See, I have acne and blemishes problem since secondary school days, and it got worsens after army. The severity hits me on the face when the therapist took a simple skin analysis to identify my skin condition and problems I am facing. The hydration score revealed a severely dehydrated skin, and my sebum test showed (100%!) oily skin results. The treatment room itself is warm, cosy with natural soothing music. Starting off the facial with D͛Skin͛s in-house cleansing oil and cleansing milk, which is really gentle on the face with a calming scent. The expertly massage techniques, said to pressure points for better circulation, relaxes me so much that I doze off a couple of times during the session. Next came the extractions, which I know would be painful but is a necessary step to remove all those pesky pimples.

During the extractions, soft breath of steam breezes onto the face, softening the skin and pores to minimise the harshness during the process. It is best to leave the extractions to the professionals because, if we do it ourselves, it might cause inflammation and worse, really bad inflamed scars.

Moving on from the extractions, the therapist used an equipment to sanitize the face, zapping away all the bacteria and germs. She mentioned that it might hurt abit but I didn͛t feel any pain in the process. Once the face was completely ͚germ-free͛, a layer of hydration gel mask was applied, followed by a layer of netting and finally a delicious smelling oat mask that strangely makes me hungry. While the picture above looked quite comical, the cool tinkling sensation, plus the neck and shoulder massage made me feel like a million bucks.

Overall, I felt that the therapists here are very professional, customer-oriented and knowledgeable on their work. After all, D͛skin has been in Singapore for over a decade, further proving its reputation and professionalism in the saturated skincare industry. There͛s nothing that would hinder me from visiting again in another 2 weeks͛ time, and I look forward to that day for another 2-hour of pampering!

No more clogged pores with Annabelle Skin – Dr.Belter Cosmetic

I realized that my skin condition is getting from bad to worse after 3 consecutive months of traveling – 7-8 days a month. It got really bad when I spent 8 full days in China and we know how dirty and polluted the air can get there!

It was really not surprising when I started to experience breakouts on the forehead of my face. And as soon as I got back from my last trip, I made an appointment with Annabelle Skin, located at The Adelphi for a thorough cleansing.

So I did Double Effect Carbon-Detox Treatment and the treatment covers for both the face and the neck.

The products used for the cleansing steps are Velvety Cream Cleanser and Fresh Blossomy Tensum from the latest Bio-Classica Range from Dr.Belter. I also did an Enzyme Cream peeling to cleanse my face thoroughly from the dead skin cells and pollutants that are clinging onto the surface of my skin before the extraction. And I did mention before how much I love their High Frequency antiseptic care? They will make sure that all the bacteria and toxins are removed before the application of serum and mask.

After an ampoule care was applied onto my skin, double masking was performed to health and nourish my face. The first mask was a combination of their Line A Mask and Special Gentle Mask while the second mask was the Shake it! Mask Peeloff – Carbon D-Tox.

REVIEW: Geranium Gua Sha Fusion Treatment

Sorry to say, but my last facial was more 8 months ago :X So guess how happy I was when MFP sent me to Geranium to try out their Gua Sha Fusion Treatment?!

Gua Sha Treatment is a fusion of pharmaceutical-grade products backed by science and TCM technique. I call this the East meet West treatment. The treatment can instantly boost your skin’s hydration, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and even brighten up your complexion! Not getting, you can also achieve a more defined face contour when you do Gua Sha on the face!

When I first stepped into Geranium, the entire place was very welcoming and clean! Even the staffs there are super helpful and friendly which felt a lot like home. Changed into their bedroom shoes and off to bed I go :X

Just kidding! But the dim-litted room was really cosy. I slept a little during the 120 minutes treatment.

As usual, the first step is to remove and cleanse the face so that the face is free from make up, oil and dirt.

What I love about facial most is the extraction process. I love seeing my pores shrink after every extraction!

Extraction is usually painful but it was ok for me when the therapist extracted 8 months worth of dirt out. Okay, just exaggerating. She was quite patience with me even though there are areas which are harder to extract due to clogged pores.

Putting together a pharmaceutical-grade products backed by science, SkinCeuticals was used. Hence, my face was fed with goodness like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B5 and Advance Moisture Complex before the Gua Sha process.

These ingredients are essentials as they help to hydrate and repair the skin.

Gua Sha on the other hand, is using a board made from buffalo horn to gently stoke the skin. Gua Sha may sound painful but it wasn’t! At least not on the face. It felt more like a massage to me. It was super comfortable and the therapist is very skilled. I actually enjoyed the whole process a lot.

By doing Gua Sha on the face, it can help stimulate facial muscles to achieve skin firmness, encourage lymphatic drainage to remove toxin and water retention. If you ever feel that your face looks bloated, try out their Gua Sha Fusion!

The therapist did half of my face to show me the differences. What were instant and obvious were my smile lines!!! My lines looked shorter! I always have this issue with smile lines because I laugh and smile a lot.

The treatment ended off with a cold hydration mask. I requested for them not to cover my eyes because I was texting James (hehe). Your entire face (excluding your nostrils) should be covered with the mask.

The mask was cooling at first but it keeps the skin assured that it will be in good “hands”.

After the treatment, my skin felt smoother as all the dirt and dead cells were removed! Skin also felt firmer and bouncier! In fact, it also looked more radiant after that. I feel like going back for another session because the overall experience was just too comfortable.

I just regained the extra confidence to leave house with naked face again now that my pores are not so visible!

D’Skin Lab Facial – For Him/Her

As part of my daily work to conduct business discussion with clients, I get to frequent Novena Square quite a fair bit. Having a beauty blogger girlfriend does keep my eyes more open to Beauty products and skin treatment centres within the mall. One of the stores that stood out in the higher storeys of the building is the Su Beau Derma Clinik. This time around, I am very thankful we not only get to try out their treatments but also their latest addition, the Soft Plus (A standalone PC-powered skin assessment system. With this all-in-one machine, the dedicated therapists are able to track our skin’s pH, hydration, sebum, elasticity and melanin level within minutes!

It is a painless, fast and simple procedure. Basically, the therapist attaches a probe onto our faces. End of it all, the reports for each components are revealed! Here, you get to know whether your skin is aging faster than your true age!

M went ahead first. I like the fact that the therapists were very detailed in their analysis of our skin so as to ensure that they are able to recommend us very effective treatment thereafter.

If you are wondering why I did not contribute to the photos, it is simply because the treatment was so soothing that I fell asleep during the course of it! Lol! Got a good scolding from M! But well, it was all worth it! I love visiting them after work because they would drain my entire day of exhaustion away.

I would say truthfully that even the extraction portion of my treatment was of minimum irritation. There is a reason for this! Later did I realise that the extraction process was not simply done by any Tom, Dick & Harry. Also, certainly not my therapist herself. For this task, they have an extraction specialist! They take on a long, ardous training before being certified as an extraction expert.

After the extraction, our face felt SO SO much cleaner. M had an extra mask to help in the extraction due to the application of make up on a daily basis. She did the hydration facial which she enjoyed thoroughly.

Her feedback was ” It was one of the best facial so far! The face felt so smooth and clean because all the black/white heads were removed in just one session. The foundation felt easier to apply because the face was smooth and the fine lines were not as visible as before as the skin is deeply hydrated”.

For me, It was my virgin experience in eyebrow shaping! I think my face look neater now and the skin looked more radiant. That is also why you see quite a fair bit of selfie in my Instagram (@james_awyong) recently 😛

Another feature of the treatment that impressed me was the fact that their therapists were well-versed with good massage techniques. After the facial treatment portion, my therapist went on to give me a rejuvenating shoulder, neck and head massage. See! That’s why i couldn’t escape the slumber!

Journey to smoother skin

Sometimes I get very confused with oil seeds and warts. But in any case, we just gotta know that they are irritating and ugly! They make the skin look rough when all we want is smooth skin 🙁

When I visited The Face Aesthetic Clinic, I was like “WAH, Dr. Zhang is DAMN good looking!!!” I couldn’t stop telling James this. LOL. Of course, I was not there to admire him, I was there to tell him the concerns I had with my face. I told him that I wanted the newly developed oil seeds to be removed but he told me the tiny spots were warts and not oil seeds. Then I went “WARTS? I HAVE WARTS ON MY FACE?”

The tiny dots on my face are warts and warts are EXTREMELY common. How do you tell the differences between a wart and an oil seed? The easiest way is to differentiate the color as warts look slightly brown in color.

I even have them on my eyelids. They can spread (omg like cancer cells!) throughout the body but they are harmless although they are caused by viral infection. Go and take a look at your face in the mirror right now. I am pretty certain that 50% of you have warts as well but have never look at them carefully.

When I thought of the 5 days downtime – no makeup, no skincare, just a mask and some eyeliner – I was quite turned off by the idea. Actually you can makeup when the wounds are dry enough but I would prefer to keep everything clean and neat.

Then I thought, if I can sacrifice the 5 days for a smoother and flatter skin, why not?! I did not take me much time to convince myself. Lol. And so tadahhhh!! I went for the treatment – Electrocautery. It uses heat on the living tissue to achieve hemostasis or varying degrees of tissue destruction. Mine was quite mild so it was done pretty fast.

Numbing cream was applied prior the treatment and then put to rest for 15-20 minutes before the laser. Laser sounds painful but it did not hurt a single bit for me because it was a very very mild laser.

IT DIDN’T HURT A SINGLE BIT. Numbing cream work wonders yo! The entire “burning” process only took me 10 minutes. You can’t even feel it when Dr. Zhang is done.

I left the clinic with a facial mask on (as usual) because I had no sunblock on and I wouldn’t step out of anywhere without sunblock. I had facial mask with me for the next 3 days as well.

Although the downtime requires a minimum of 5 days, my skin recovered within 4 days! I don’t know how or why but they started to peel on the 3rd and recovered on the 4th.

Again, I have to repeat this, DO NOT ever visit any beauty parlor to get your mole, oil seeds or warts removed. Not only they are not safe, you DO NOT want scars on your face too.

Once again, confidence boost greatly with the clear skin! More selfies coming your way on my Instagram! :X

I was thinking of removing the annoying mole on my right cheek but everyone already me gave me a firm no when I asked for their opinion 🙁

Maybe I’ll go back to Dr. Zhang for some facial enhancement soon! 😀

Facial @ Halley Medical Aesthetics

Facial is not about removing black/white heads nor removing dead cells only. Yes, they are important because they can lead to enlarged pores. I am even more afraid of wrinkles and fine lines than the “heads” though. We can’t really reverse wrinkles without going through expensive treatments (unless you go for the fillers/botox options).

Having said that, we can prevent or reduce wrinkles. Wrinkles make one look tired and old and Dr. Tan knows that I have issues with wrinkles so he recommended me to go for a Halley’s Signature Rejuvenation Facial 2 weeks after my chemical peel with James.

Why this facial? I asked.

He told me that the treatment facial can encourage the growth of new skin and rejuvenates the skin by improving the skin overall appearance by removing fine lines, closing up enlarged pores and aids in the brightening of the face.

Dynamic pulsed light (DPL) was used during the treatment. Although it looks scary, it is totally painless. It is actually quite comfortable because it feels warm. It was raining when I was there so it was very comfortable for me!

– Carnosine
– Hyaluronic acid and panthenol
– Vitamins (B and C)
– Alpha lipoic acid

I have never done facial in my whole life, so I know nuts about facial. Upon knowing this, my loving girlfriend decided to give me my virgin facial treatment at Qi Mantra.

She told me that I would be doing the Miracle Facial ($350) and she wouldn’t stop raving about it because they will be using Miracle (stem) cells for the facial.

The cells are derived from Soy photo placenta extract which is rich in protein and amino acids. They aid in the repairing process of the skin and restores the youthful collagen while reducing my signs of aging.

The outlet we went to is located at Wheelock Place #03-19.

All ready and anticipative for the Miracle Facial treatment incorporating the latest VPL technology and the Miracle Cell product which seeks to awake every of my facial skin cells!

My before face: Couldn’t be dulled any further after weathering the harsh Singapore environment for 27 years! Look closer and you would be able to see some blackheads too.

Finally the treatment started with double cleansing, toning and exfoliation of my skin with scrub and steamer. The beautician was very friendly and patient in explaining each individual steps during the whole process. The whole process was nothing but comfortable even for the VPL application process!

VPL stands for Variable Pulse Light which allows the intensity to be customized to suit the individual’s preference.

Before the VPL application, the beautician kindly seeked my opinion on the treatment options and I selected the firming and pore reducing one. Personally, I tried fractional CO2 laser before and it was a pretty painful experience. On the contrary, this was almost painless! Just felt that my face was at most undergoing ‘photocopying’ with every flash on my skin under the VPL treatment.

The extraction part was kinda “shiok” because my face felt cleaner and the fresher. I had always thought extraction to be painful but nah, I could barely feel anything. A layer of black head softener cream as also applied before the extraction to facilitate the process.

I also enjoyed the application of Stem Cell Ampoules and Stem Cell Lifting mask! I kept falling asleep because it was too comfy.

Felt thoroughly rejuvenated after the session ended. I was also further pampered with a shoulder and scalp massage! I felt that my whole week of stress just disintegrated within that 1.5 hours treatment!

Just look at the serenity from my face *totally unaware the girlfriend sneaked on me*

The girlfriend asked for feedback from me end of the session & I just gave her this face! Lol! Needless to say, this time the kiss wasn’t for her but for the treatment! just simply love it! My skin felt firmer and definitely more radiating with energy and vigour.

Results that you can observe from the facial would be:

No redness was observed and the skin felt smoother.

Passage New York Spa

I think I just went to one of the better SPAs in singapore! Other than the posh exterior and interior, the staffs were also approachable and friendly.

The spa I am talking about today is Passage New York. It has a reputation for providing the best in today’s women lifestyle needs.

The spa is centrally located in the heart of the business and financial district, providing facial or body massage for the career and modern woman in the society. They also have excellent ambience and settings for utter serenity. I could do with an entire day or work and head down to the spa right after that.

Interestingly, it does not only do facial or body treats services. They also sell leather goods and designer clothes.

All I wanted that afternoon was a good full body massage while my buddy wanted a facial as she is getting married soon!

I told the consultant that I have shoulder aches very often so she recommended me to go for a 90mins premium collagen milk body massage with body scrub and a hot stone massage after that.

I was greeted by a clean and warm room (toilet?). The full body massage includes a combination of specialized massage technique and pure collagen milk.

The milk left my skin feeling silky smooth and refreshed!!! How many times do we actually get to soak or bath ourselves from top to toe with collagen? The hot stone massage was my favourite. Although the stones were REALLY hot, but they were super shiok at the same time! No pain no gain! My shoulders ached for another 2 days due to the massage but it was all worth it!
